Sassa Means Income Source Identified

“SASSA Means Income Source Identified” is an error that speaks volumes. You may already be familiar with the reasons why you might be shown this error. However, if you don’t know then don’t worry because I will discuss all the reasons in the following article.

But before we get started, you must understand that it is imperative to know the reason for all the errors that appear on your SASSA application. If you are ignorant of the reasons you will never know how to react to them. With that being said let’s get down to details.

Understanding The Mechanics

Sassa Means Income Source Identified

Before we start off with the explanation of the possible reason for the alternative source identification error, it is imperative that you understand why it is shown in the first place. You may already know that SASSA has very strict criteria when it comes to the eligibility and ineligibility of its beneficiaries. It ensures that the funds are handed out to only the most deserving class of South Africa.

Hence, it has an extensive process for the verification of the data provided by the applicants in their grant applications. The organization thinks it is incumbent to take pledges from the applicants as well as written permission to access personal information from related sources for example banks etc. They scrutinize your bank account details firsthand from your bank and the outcome of that scrutiny becomes the basis for this particular error in question.

Reasons for This Error

There could be a myriad of reasons why you might get the “SASSA Means Income Source Identified” error on your application. Now, it is up to you to decide where your information got wrong on your application. Sometimes the applicants know the reasons because they had applied despite the knowledge that they were ineligible for the SRD grant.

However, most of the time people can not even fathom the meaning of this error let alone understand the causes of it. So, I am about to explain all the possible reasons why you could get this error and how you can tackle this situation in case it is unfairly presented to you.

1. Amount Of Your Income

The most recurring reason for this error is that the applicant receives equal to or more than R595 per month in his/her personal bank account. In simple words, if you have another source of income and you get about this much amount or more every month continuously, then you will definitely get this error from SASSA.

It just indicates that you are ineligible for the SASSA grant you applied for since you already earn a substantial amount of income and receive it in your personal bank account at regular intervals. So, if you earn this much money then I suggest you refrain from applying for the SASSA grants at all because your application will be rejected eventually.

2. Frequency Of Payments Received

You may also get the “Alternative Source Income” error if you are receiving regular payments in your bank account frequently. These payments could be lower or higher than the R595 threshold. The thing that matters in this instance is that you have another income source that guarantees you a sum at regular intervals.

This particular reason might turn out to be the very reason for your SASSA disqualification. So, it is imperative that you must not be receiving any kind of payments in your account at regular intervals regardless of their amount.

3. Nature Of Income

Now this is the tricky part of discerning the particular reason why SASSA might have shown you the alternative source error. There are certain kinds of incomes that SASSA does not consider for its disqualification criteria. For instance, if you are receiving pension funds at regular intervals on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis, you shall be deemed ineligible for SASSA grants.

On the other hand, if you receive a one-off payment lump sum money from any pensioners fund, you will not be deemed ineligible no matter how large the sum might be. So, you will have to carefully check out the SASSA guidelines and ineligibility criteria and then check out yourself if you will be considered eligible or ineligible as per their own standards.

What should I do if I get the alternative source income error from SASSA?

Now, if you are guilty of the above-mentioned charges then there is absolutely nothing that you can do about this error except to give up any hope of getting a grant from SASSA. However, if you are not guilty and SASSA has unfairly given this error on your application there you may do one thing about it.
You can lodge an appeal against this error with SASSA. However, you must keep in mind that you can only lodge an appeal within thirty days of receiving this error. In case you forget to appeal within this time frame, your appeal shall be considered time-barred and hence, SASSA shall not entertain any appeal from your side.

So, this was all from my side and I hope you all enjoyed reading through this article. I tried very hard to combine all the facts that I could personally get firsthand from a SASSA official relating to this error. So feel free to circulate this article to anyone who might benefit from this authentic information.

In any case, I would like to sum up this entire article by summarizing everything that I mentioned above. The reasons for the alternative income source error are all related to your bank account and other income sources. You can file an appeal against this error if you think it is unjust in your case but if it is fair, you can not do anything about it.
